Rabbi John Nimon
Rabbi Nimon, who was ordained from the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 1976 became the Rabbi of the Northshore Jewish Congregation in July of 2009. Previously, he served as the Rabbi of several congregations in Connecticut. Most recently he was the Rabbi in Wallingford, where he served for nine years. He also was the Rabbi in the communities of Newtown, Stratford, Deep River and Cheshire.
Rabbi Nimon was born in Toronto, Canada. He did his undergraduate studies at York University in Toronto where he majored in Political Science. He and his late wife have four children, three of whom are married. He is currently married to Lisa Rosenfield Nimon. Lisa and her late husband have two daughters. Rabbi Nimon and his wife have five grandchildren.
In the past Rabbi Nimon has served on various community boards including the Jewish Family Service, the Red Cross, the Jewish Federation of New Haven, Action for Bridgeport Community Development While in Stratford, Rabbi Nimon was chairman of the Interfaith Clergy Association. He has also worked as a chaplain in the Hospice Program of Greater Bridgeport.

Rabbi Nimon Receives Doctor of Divinity Degree from HUC
On May 4, 2012, Rabbi Nimon was presented with a Doctor of Divinity degree by the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion. Rabbi Nimon was ordained at the Cincinnati branch of that seminary in1976. HUC-JIR is the oldest rabbinic seminary in the United States. The awarding of the D.D. degree took place at Temple Emanuel-El in New York City. HUC awards the Doctor of Divinity Degree to select rabbinical alumni following a minimum of 25 years of devoted service. The President of the Seminary, Rabbi Dr. David Ellenson, presented Rabbi Nimon with his degree describing him with the following words:
"John Nimon, Devoted rabbi, who, as rabbi of Northshore Jewish Congregation, Mandeville, Louisiana, inspires and enlightens his congregants. Who has been a faithful pastor to his people and who
has had a noble influence on the congregations he has previously served. Whose love of Judaism is inspired by the highest ideals of our faith and whose zeal for transmitting the traditions of our heritage has manifested itself in the joy he experiences as a counselor and rabbi to his congregation.”
Rabbi Nimon, who accepted the position of Rabbi at the Northshore Jewish Congregation in July of 2009, recalled four memorable events that he was involved in since coming to Mandeville. Last year he accompanied some members of his congregation on a trip to Israel. In the fall of 2011 he had the pleasure of officiating at the dedication of a new Torah for the synagogue. In January of 2010, Rabbi accompanied 8 people to Houston’s mikvah. This April Rabbi Nimon helped arrange a program at NJC in commemoration of the Holocaust that was attended by over 200 people, including many local high school students.
