I was born and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi in a Catholic family. From a very young age, I questioned the faith I was being brought up in. My older brother, always the philosopher, was instrumental in helping me find Judaism. He let me borrow his world religion book to read while I was in elementary school, and it was there that I discovered the beautiful tenets of the Jewish faith. By the time I was in 7th grade, I convinced my mom to let me leave Catholic school and attend public. I continued reading and learning about Judaism, so it was no surprise that I began the conversion process in Mobile, Alabama while pursuing a degree in Fire Arts from the University of South Alabama.
In 2007, on Rosh Hashanah, I converted with the help of Rabbi Donald Kunstadt of Springhill Avenue Temple in Mobile, with my mom in the congregation. I graduated with my BFA from South, and in 2012, I welcomed my first child. Our family moved to New Orleans in 2013. In 2016, we moved to the Northshore. In 2017 and 2020, I had my second and third children, and we became members of NJC just before the pandemic started. I began teaching art at religious school in 2022, and I enjoy it very much.
I look forward to strengthening our congregation and community in any way I can through volunteers and activism.
